DCLBaking soda has a variety of amazing uses. It can eliminate odors in the fridge, power a science fair volcano, clear clogged drains, and remove stains. I often forget it can also be used in baking. Today, I discovered another way to use baking soda – to cleanse your face.
Exfoliate Using Baking Soda Baking soda is an excellent exfoliant. Why? Because it’s coarse enough to remove dead skin cells, yet gentle enough to avoid irritating sensitive skin when applied properly.
From the Beauty Brains.
To enjoy the benefits of exfoliating with baking soda, add a teaspoon of baking soda to your regular facial cleanser, mix it thoroughly, and gently massage it into your skin as you would with any store-bought exfoliant. Do this 2-3 times a week or according to your usual exfoliation routine. If your skin becomes red or irritated, try reducing the amount of baking soda and apply the treatment at night to allow your skin to recover while you sleep. Always follow up with moisturizer!
Acne Treatment While I'm not a doctor and can't provide medical evidence that baking soda treats acne, many individuals who use it for acne seem satisfied with the results. The Beauty Brains speculate that baking soda may reduce acne redness due to its exfoliating properties. The team at Acne Savvy concurs and offers the following advice:
Start by mixing a small amount of baking soda (about a teaspoon) with water to create a smooth paste. Gently massage the scrub onto your skin. Leave it on for around one minute, then rinse with lukewarm water. Pat your face dry with a clean towel.
Why All This is Green Baking soda is environmentally friendly. Unlike some soaps and exfoliants that contain harsh chemicals and excessive packaging, baking soda is much more eco-friendly in both areas.
