Have you started drafting your 2025 goals? Hold off—this viral tweet from The New York Post has amassed over 15 million views:
Baba Vanga, the blind Bulgarian prophet, isn't the only one forecasting the apocalypse for next year. Nostradamus, the famed French seer, also foresaw a catastrophic event in Europe for 2025, as reported by The Times of India, and he made this prediction centuries ago!
With two of history's most renowned psychics aligning on this grim forecast, should we all be liquidating our retirement savings and confessing our deepest feelings to loved ones? Absolutely not.
Who Was Baba Vanga?
Vangeliya Pandeva Gushterova, born in 1911 in Bulgaria, led an ordinary life until the age of 12. At that time, a mysterious "tornado" reportedly swept her into the air and deposited her in a nearby field. This event left her blind, but it also marked the beginning of her prophetic abilities and her reputation as a healer. By the 1940s, people from across Bulgaria sought her out, often inquiring about the fates of loved ones lost during World War II.
Vanga's influence was so significant that the Institute of Suggestology, affiliated with the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, conducted studies on her during the 1960s and 1970s to determine the validity of her abilities. She passed away in 1996 from breast cancer, a fate she may have foreseen. Despite her death, Vanga's legacy endures, with a devoted following in Bulgaria, North Macedonia, and particularly in Russia.
Baba Vanga's Alleged Accurate Predictions
Supporters claim that Vanga successfully foretold numerous events, including:
The emergence of the Islamic State
The tragic death of Princess Diana
The 9/11 attacks
Climate change
The 2004 Boxing Day tsunami
The Chernobyl nuclear disaster
Brexit
Barack Obama's election as U.S. president
The issue with these (and all other) predictions attributed to Vanga is that she was either illiterate or semi-literate, meaning she never documented her prophecies. Unlike Nostradamus, who penned cryptic verses (and even a recipe for cherry jelly) that are subject to interpretation, Vanga's predictions rely solely on secondhand accounts from those who claimed to have heard her speak. For instance, someone might say, "She definitely warned me about Global Warming back in 1967!" (Note: Global warming was first discussed in a scientific paper in 1896.)
Unlike many psychics, Vanga had the support of legitimate academics, notably Georgi Lozanov. Lozanov's suggestology techniques were examined by UNESCO and hailed as "the most culturally integrated and effective learning method" for Second Language Acquisition. However, Lozanov also explored parapsychology and clairvoyance, fields that lack scientific validation. Nonetheless, his association with Vanga lent her credibility, and the desire to preserve his reputation may explain some of the retrospective claims about her predictions.
Not all of Vanga's predictions are retroactive. Occasionally, individuals, including her niece, have shared alleged future prophecies from Vanga, such as the prediction about the apocalypse beginning in 2025. While it's impossible to definitively rule out the end of the world next year (especially before the U.S. presidential election results are in), we can evaluate her track record by examining earlier predictions.
Ambiguity: The psychic's greatest ally
In 2023, a comprehensive list of Vanga's predictions for 2024 was unveiled. Here's what she foresaw:
An assassination attempt on Vladimir Putin.
A "large nation" will engage in biological weapons testing or attacks.
A worldwide economic downturn.
Severe weather phenomena and natural catastrophes.
A significant advancement in quantum computing.
The more precise the prediction, the simpler it is to disprove, which is why some of these are overly broad—extreme weather events occur annually, Vanga; that's hardly a bold forecast. The remaining predictions are events that seemed plausible for 2024 but still haven't materialized, unless the next few months bring unexpected developments.
Even a single accurate prediction could have solidified Vanga's credibility for millions; however, failing on all counts is unlikely to deter her followers—there's always next year.
Baba Vanga's Failed Predictions
When Vanga's predictions become more specific, their accuracy drops significantly. Here are some of her most notable failures:
Isis did not invade Europe in 2016.
Barack Obama was not the final U.S. president (unfortunately).
Aliens did not arrive on Earth in 2023 and initiate a war with humanity.
World War III did not commence in 2010, nor did it conclude in 2014.
There are more examples, but a clear trend emerges: Whenever a Vanga supporter provides a specific future date, it inevitably proves incorrect. This pattern is also evident with Nostradamus and other self-proclaimed futurists. The reality is that no one, not even a blind Bulgarian mystic or a 16th-century French astrologer, can truly foresee the future because it hasn't occurred yet—there's nothing to see.
Baba Vanga's Vision of the World Ending in 2025
For entertainment purposes, here's a timeline of future events as predicted by Baba Vanga:
2025: A war in Europe will decimate the continent's population.
2028: Mankind will start harnessing Venus as a potential energy source.
2033: The polar ice caps will melt, causing a dramatic rise in global sea levels.
2076: Communism will expand globally, reaching numerous nations.
2130: Humanity will establish contact with extraterrestrial beings.
2170: A severe drought will ravage large parts of the planet.
3005: Earth will engage in a conflict with a Martian civilization.
3797: Humans will be forced to abandon Earth as it becomes uninhabitable.
5079: The world will meet its ultimate end.
My Take on How the World Will End
Unlike Baba Vanga and Nostradamus, I possess the genuine ability to foresee the world's end. After being struck by a Toyota Corolla in 1994, I gained the power to glimpse into individual futures. Place your hand on the screen so I can sense your aura and begin:
I sense something; something terrifying! The world is ending! And it's imminent! Within the next 60 to 80 years, everything will fade to darkness, and the world will cease to exist—specifically for you. Likely in a hospital room, surrounded by indifferent nursing staff.
