Mudrooms are perfect for storing coats, boots, and other belongings near the entrance, but they’re not always the most furniture-friendly spaces. This offers a fantastic chance to test your woodworking abilities and create a custom shoe bench that maximizes every inch of space.
Ana White is an expert in Sketchup, and in the video above, she demonstrates how she assembles her DIY mudroom bench seat using this tool.
She used 1x12 1/4” plywood to construct the storage shelves, leaving them 1/2” shorter in length to allow for some flexibility when installing them into a slightly off-square area. She then added trim along the top edge of the shelves and extended it to cover the back of the space.
The vacant area behind the shoe storage is sealed off by hinged doors that lift up. This space is perfect for storing tall boots, umbrellas, or anything you'd prefer to keep hidden from view in the open bins.
