How to Create Your Own Witch Broom Using Twigs
Start by collecting ordinary sticks and twigs from your backyard or the woods. Pair these with an affordable bamboo pole and twine from a local hardware store to craft a simple yet magical DIY witch broom. This broom is sized for adults, but you can modify it for a child by using a shorter bamboo pole or branch.
Gather Your Branches
Enjoy the process of foraging! Head out and collect slender branches (they'll form the broom's head). Make sure to gather enough for all your brooms, plus a few extras just in case.
Trim or Break the Branches to Fit
After collecting your branches, bring them home and spread them out on a table or floor. Using scissors (or simply your hands), trim any long branches down to approximately 2 feet in length. It's not necessary for all of them to be the exact same size, but they should be easy to bundle without having any stick out too far above the others.
Bundle the Branches
Take 6 to 12 cut sticks (depending on their thickness) and group them together into a bundle. Wrap twine around the bundle to secure it. If the bundle feels loose, add small drops of glue where the twine meets the branches for extra hold. Bundling the sticks together instead of merely tying them to your pole will help keep everything in place. Repeat this until you have enough bundles (around 5 to 7) to form the broom head.
Attach Bundles to Pole
Pick up one bundle and decide where you want it to sit on the bottom of the pole. Aim for about a foot of branches to hang off, forming the broom head. Apply a quarter-sized amount of glue to the bamboo pole and attach the bundle, holding it in place until it's securely stuck. Repeat this process with the remaining bundles until the broom head is complete. Allow the glue to dry completely before moving on to the next step.
Secure Your Bundles
Take your crafting wire and wrap it around the branches to ensure they stay in place (just in case the glue doesn't hold—sometimes it happens). Next, wind additional twine around the broom several times to cover the wire, so it stays hidden. Tie off the twine to keep it secure.
