DCLWhy spend money on something new when you can easily make it yourself?
Steps to craft your personal fretboard cleaner and polisher:
1. Find your guitar.
Before beginning this project, your guitar must meet one condition: it should need restringing. If it doesn't, put off this project. There's no reason to waste strings that are still in good shape, right?
2. Apply vinegar to a cotton ball.
I personally use rice vinegar, but any neutral vinegar will work (just avoid balsamic) as it’s an excellent cleaning agent. Gently rub the vinegar on the fretboard as you replace each string. Remember: Never remove all the strings at once when restringing, as it can damage the neck and action. After cleaning each section, use a cotton ball with olive oil to polish it. Repeat for the entire fretboard.
3. Enjoy! I’ve been using this simple method to clean and polish my fretboard (and the rest of my guitar) for 14 years.
It’s always worked perfectly, and I can't imagine ever spending money on a commercial product that does the same thing, especially when it comes with more packaging, resources, and who knows what chemicals.
