This charming paper lighthouse will light up your path back home!
Materials Required:
A 15-ounce cylindrical container, like one used for bread crumbs
A 9-ounce disposable paper cup
A small 3-ounce disposable paper cup
Acrylic paints in black and white
White, gray, black, red, and yellow construction paper or card stock
A wooden skewer for structural support
A paintbrush for applying colors
A pair of scissors for precise cutting
Craft glue for securing pieces together
Two rubber bands to hold components in place
A ruler for accurate measurements
A pencil for marking and planning
Step 1: Apply multiple layers of white paint to both cups. Allow them to dry completely.
Step 2: Measure and cut a white paper sheet to match the tube's height. Wrap it around the tube, securing it with glue and overlapping the edges. Use rubber bands to keep the paper in position as it dries.
The rubber bands ensure the paper stays firmly in place during the drying process.
Once dry, carefully remove the rubber bands.
Step 3: Turn the tube upside down, placing the opening at the bottom. Glue the larger cup first, followed by the smaller one, both positioned upside down on top of the tube. Allow the structure to dry thoroughly.
Step 4: Prepare two strips of gray paper, measuring 1-3/4 x 15-1/2 inches and 3/4 x 11-1/2 inches. Fold each strip into 1/4-inch pleats by alternating the folds back and forth. Overlap the ends and glue each pleated strip into a circular shape. Attach the larger pleated circle around the tube's top and the smaller one around the bigger cup's top.
Step 5: Using black paper, trace and cut out the required number of doors and windows as shown in the photo. Attach the door and two large windows to the bottom level. Place one medium window on the front and another on the back of the second level. Distribute the four smaller windows evenly around the top level. Download the Paper Lighthouse Window Pattern here.
Step 6: Create a lightning rod by cutting 4 inches from the skewer. Paint this section black and let it dry. Use the skewer to make a hole in the center of the top cup, then remove it.
Step 7: Cut a 3-inch circle from red paper. Poke a hole in the center using the skewer. Make a slit from the edge of the circle to the hole. Overlap the edges at the slit to form a cone and secure with glue.
Step 8: Insert the cut end of the skewer into the hole in the top cup. Apply glue around the cup's edge, then slide the red roof onto the lightning rod, positioning it to rest on the glued edges. Allow it to dry.
Step 9: Using yellow paper, trace and cut out the light beam shape. Fold the end along the dotted line and attach it to one of the upper windows using glue.
