Snow Goggle Giggles
Create stylish snow goggles. The Snow Goggle Giggles project is inspired by techniques used by Arctic tribes long before modern eyewear existed. Use these age-old methods to craft your own contemporary version of glare-reducing sunglasses.
Indigenous tribes in the Arctic faced challenges with the intense brightness of endless snowfields. Prolonged exposure to the sun's reflection on the snow could lead to blindness, prompting ancient people to design goggles that minimized the harsh winter glare.
Materials Required:
- Cardboard or Styrofoam egg carton
- Safe scissors,
- String or yarn
- Feathers
- Sequins
- Other decorative items
Step 1: Since you likely don’t reside in snowy, remote areas, you can craft these goggles purely for enjoyment. Cut two sections from a standard egg carton, one for each eye.
Step 2: Connect the two sections at the nose bridge using soft yarn or string. Attach a string to each side, ensuring it’s long enough to tie securely at the back of your head once the egg cups are in place.
Step 3: Before wearing the goggles, create small, half-inch slits in each egg section. Ensure the cuts are narrow to allow visibility while minimizing the amount of reflective light reaching your eyes.
Step 4: Personalize the goggles using feathers, string, fabric, or sequins available at home. Ensure small decorations like sequins are securely attached to avoid getting them in your eyes.
