While using a credit card has advantages over a debit card, budgeting can become tricky. A single impulsive purchase or mistake can leave you with revolving debt—which isn't ideal. Debitize, available on Web and iOS, helps you earn rewards without taking on that risk.
Personally, I’m a fan of credit cards for the perks they offer: free travel rewards, price protection, credit monitoring, and more. I charge nearly everything to my card to rack up rewards—it’s been how I’ve funded my travels in recent years. But managing my budget with this method is tricky. My rule is to never keep more in my bank account than what I owe on my card, which works, but the approach isn’t perfect because I have other expenses coming from my bank. Simply put, tracking my spending this way is tough.
When I spoke to Liran Amrany, the co-founder of Debitize, he shared that this was the main reason he created the service.
I found this to be quite common. While credit cards offer plenty of benefits, debit cards just don’t compare, which can cause stress. Debitize lets you link any credit card to your checking account, turning your credit card into a tool just like a debit card. You earn rewards without worrying about interest or late fees. Managing money shouldn’t be this hard.
Debitize connects your credit card to your bank account, so every time you make a purchase, the corresponding amount is automatically deducted from your bank. The money is held in a 'Debitize Reserve Account' until your bill is due, helping you manage your spending while still earning rewards and enjoying all the benefits of using a credit card.
The funds in your Debitize Reserve Account are FDIC-insured, kept safe by an established and regulated bank, as stated on the website. Debitize will pay your credit card bill one week before your due date. Additionally, you can set a minimum balance on your checking account to ensure there’s enough for other expenses or to avoid overdraft fees.
If you have an existing credit card balance, it’s best to clear it before starting with Debitize to maintain organization and start fresh. For those in debt, Debitize offers a 'Debt Destroyer' feature. You can set it up to pay off your debt gradually (or all at once), adding extra payments to your regular transaction deductions.
When it comes to security, Debitize doesn’t store or sell your information. They use 256-bit encryption to protect your data. If someone were to hack your account, they would only be able to see your transaction history, not access your account numbers or sensitive information, according to Amrany.
How does Debitize profit if they don’t sell your data? While the core service remains free, they offer paid features like the 'Credit Optimizer' for $3 per month. This feature pays down your balance weekly to keep your credit utilization low. You can explore this tool via the links provided below.
