Transform a simple lampshade into something stunning with just a few easy steps.
Hemera/ThinkstockIsn't it time to make your lampshade more exciting? Add a personal touch with some fabric and shoe polish to give it new life.
Required Materials:
- a lampshade
- fabric
- Modge Podge
- scissors
- paintbrushes
- shoe polish
- rags
Step-by-Step Instructions:
- Select a basic lampshade with a textured surface. A smooth, but slightly porous texture works best for this project.
- Choose a fabric with a pattern that suits the size of your lampshade.
- Carefully cut out fabric pieces. Be gentle to avoid fraying the edges.
- Apply a coat of Modge Podge slightly larger than the fabric cutout onto the lampshade. If needed, thin the Modge Podge with water, but avoid making it too runny. Place the fabric onto the wet surface and add another layer of Modge Podge on top. Let the fabric remain slightly wrinkled, don’t smooth it out. Repeat for all fabric pieces.
- Allow the lampshade to dry completely.
- Using a rag, gently rub shoe polish (brown or black) over the lampshade to enhance the texture and darken the shade. Start with a small amount and increase if necessary.
- Leave the shade as is, or finish it with a clear spray lacquer for added durability.
