The most unexpected aspect of IKEA's latest product launch is how long it took to arrive. This week, the North American branch of the renowned Swedish furniture company introduced a fresh collection tailored exclusively for pets. Named LURVIG (meaning “hairy” in Swedish), the range allows pet owners to explore IKEA's offerings, from cozy dog beds to stylish cat scratching posts—each with a signature IKEA flair.
Take their pet couch ($49.95), which transforms into a bed, or the compact pet bed designed to fit neatly under a human bed. The “cat house on legs” ($54.95) resembles a vintage television, providing a playful hideout for your feline to observe you through a screen.

The retailer consulted veterinarians to ensure their product designs were both functional and aligned with IKEA's signature style. “It’s crucial for IKEA to offer pet products that seamlessly blend with our regular furniture collection,” Barbara Schäfer, IKEA’s product risk assessment lead, shared with Curbed. “As a pet owner myself, I can confirm that most pet products out there are far from attractive.” (Barbara certainly didn’t mince her words.)
The LURVIG collection is gradually making its way to IKEA stores, but pet owners will need to shop on behalf of their furry companions; the company prohibits pets in stores, with the exception of service animals.
