The diagnostic testing company Detect has voluntarily recalled over 11,000 of their Detect COVID-19 test kits due to a heightened risk of false negative results. As is common with recalls, this action was taken 'out of an abundance of caution.'
Which COVID test kits are subject to recall?
You can identify the recalled test kits by their lot numbers and expiration dates, and a picture of the white-and-yellow box can be found in the FDA’s recall announcement. These over-the-counter kits were shipped to customers between July 26 and August 26, 2022.
What should you do with your recalled test kit?
Remember, the accuracy of positive test results remains reliable, so if your recalled Detect test kit shows that you have COVID, consider the results valid as usual. You can dispose of the recalled test kits, except for the 'Detect Hubs,' which are unaffected by the recall. If you received your kits directly from Detect, you should have received an email with the recall details, which will be all you need for a refund.
