At times, waiting can feel like one of life's greatest challenges. Much like our self-control, patience is a finite resource. To manage it effectively, engage in activities that shift your focus away from the waiting period.
Adam Grant, an author and professor at Wharton, shares on LinkedIn:
Rather than emphasizing the dangers of jaywalking, Dan ingeniously enhances the advantages of waiting. He creates a virtual tug-of-war game where pedestrians compete against those on the opposite side of the street. This reduces jaywalkers by 90% per hour. Some individuals become so engrossed in the game that they miss multiple crossing signals. Additionally, the friendly competition fosters interactions among strangers who might otherwise ignore each other.
While distractions can be useful for routine activities, certain tasks, like driving, are too critical to allow for any loss of focus.
When hunger or irritability strikes and you’re forced to wait, engaging in a distraction can help time fly by more quickly for everyone involved.
