To earn travel rewards, you need to let your credit card points accumulate over time. Patience is key, but don’t let them just sit there. They could lose value if left unused.
Many cardholders neglect their rewards without ever using them, which defeats the purpose. If the issuer revamps their loyalty program, which they often do, those points may lose value. As Robert Harrow puts it in Forbes:
...points will likely lose their value over time. Loyalty programs often undergo devaluation, meaning the points you’ve gathered won’t necessarily increase in worth. To get real benefits, use them regularly. Don’t hoard them—redeem your rewards whenever possible.
Of course, sometimes you’ll need to hold off on using your points, especially if you’re saving up for something specific like travel. But hoarding them is generally not the best strategy. For more advice, check out the full post on Forbes.
