Rising inflation is affecting daily costs, and mailing expenses are no exception. Starting next week, the United States Postal Service (USPS) has confirmed that Forever stamps and other postage rates will see a price hike. However, you still have a chance to buy stamps at today’s rates. Here’s everything you need to know.
What is the current price of a Forever stamp?
Right now, a Forever stamp is priced at 63 cents. However, this rate is temporary. On July 9, 2023, the cost will rise by about 5.4%, bringing the price to 66 cents, as the USPS revealed earlier this year.
Though 3 cents might appear insignificant, in today’s economy, every penny matters—particularly if you frequently use stamps. To save, consider restocking your stamp supply by Saturday, July 8, as they’ll remain valid even after the price hike.
The advantage of Forever stamps lies in their name: they can mail a one-ounce letter anytime, regardless of when they were bought or used, and no matter how future prices fluctuate, as stated by the USPS.
This marks the second price increase for Forever stamps this year. On January 22, 2023, the cost rose from 60 cents to 63 cents. The USPS attributes both hikes to counteracting inflation.
Other postage rate changes
In addition to Forever stamps, other postage rates will also rise on July 9. Domestic postcards will increase from 48 cents to 51 cents, while international letters (1 oz.) and postcards will go up from $1.45 to $1.50.
Despite these price hikes, the USPS emphasizes that its rates continue to be some of the most cost-effective globally.
