Running in cold weather doesn't have to be a challenge, but deciding what to wear can be tricky: how do you stay warm without overheating once you start sweating? In this video, we show you exactly what to wear.
A good rule of thumb is that you'll feel about 20°F warmer when running, so on a 50°F day, a t-shirt and shorts will do the trick. Here are some recommended outfits for various cold temperatures:
40°F: long-sleeved shirt with pants or shorts, plus gloves.
30°F: long pants or leggings, a light jacket, and a headband or hat.
20°F: wear the jacket with the long-sleeve shirt, and pair it with shorts over your leggings (it may look a bit odd, but this trick works like a charm).
10°F: layer up with your warmest gear, plus a scarf or buff to cover your face.
Everyone has their own preferences, and with time, you'll figure out if you're the type who layers up with three shirts before it gets freezing or if you’re the person who runs through snow in shorts. This should give you a starting point for your next cold-weather run.
