In a recent post discussing the ideal music streaming platform for various listeners, I came to understand that my loyalty to Spotify isn’t due to its superiority or my deep affection for it. Instead, it’s because of my meticulously curated playlist of 1,823 songs I’ve favorited over the last five years, which would be nearly impossible to replicate.
Given that most leading streaming platforms offer similar features at comparable prices, they likely rely on the slight inconvenience of switching services to retain users. This is presumably why they don’t include a built-in feature to export playlists. However, there’s a simple solution: third-party apps or websites make the process easy and free.
Tools to Seamlessly Transfer Playlists and Tracks from Spotify to Apple Music (and Other Platforms)
Several apps are available to help you move your playlists, albums, and song selections across different music platforms. Here are three popular options:
SongShift
Free Your Music
Playlisty
In addition to apps, there are web-based solutions, such as:
Soundiiz
TuneMyMusic
Step-by-Step Guide to Transferring Your Music Between Streaming Services
Much like the music services they complement, these specialized apps and websites are quite similar. They are either free or offer premium features for a fee, though the latter is rarely necessary for most users.
Whether you opt for a web-based tool or a standalone app, the process is straightforward: download the app or visit the site, log in to your Spotify, Apple Music, or other supported service (SongShift, for example, works with 12 streaming platforms). Grant the app access to your data, and follow the instructions to move your playlists, albums, and other content between services.
These tools function by extracting the text and metadata from playlists on one platform and replicating them on another. Once the transfer is complete, it’s a good idea to revoke the app’s access in your music service’s settings for security purposes.
While the transfer process is usually seamless, occasional errors or missing tracks may occur. Most apps will notify you of any issues and allow you to manually replace songs if needed.
Certain platform-specific content, like playlists, may not transfer if the new service lacks an equivalent feature. For example, Spotify supports podcasts, but Apple Music does not, making podcast transfers between these platforms impossible. However, podcasts can be moved between Spotify and Amazon Music Unlimited.
