Xbox systems limit download speeds during gameplay to prevent disruptions to network functionality or multiplayer performance. Although downloads are quicker when the Xbox is in rest mode, Microsoft is introducing a new “Suspend My Game” feature in the Xbox downloads manager, allowing users to accelerate downloads even while the console is active.
As explained by Xbox’s Engineering Lead Eden Marie, choosing “Suspend my game” temporarily halts the bandwidth used by your games, enabling your downloads to operate at maximum speed.
You can return to your game anytime if you prefer to continue playing while downloads proceed in the background. Xbox Series X/S players can also utilize the Quick Resume feature to restart gameplay precisely where it was paused.
The 'Suspend my game' feature is now accessible in the latest Xbox Insider Program dashboard update for Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One. To experience this feature early, you can download the Xbox Insider Hub app from the Microsoft Store and join the Insider Program. It will soon be available to all Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One users in the coming weeks.
How to pause games on Xbox to boost download speeds
Once the download-enhancing 'Suspend my game' feature is available on your Xbox console, follow these steps to use it:

Press the Xbox button on your controller to open the guide menu.
Navigate to My games & apps > See all > Manage > Queue.
On the Manage Queue page, choose 'Suspend my game.' Your console’s download speeds will instantly improve.
Once the downloads are complete, you can continue playing from where you paused.
While Xbox Insiders may enjoy early access to features like 'Suspend my game,' Microsoft consistently introduces new enhancements for all users. The latest monthly update includes a FPS boost mode to enhance frame rates for backward-compatible games on Xbox Series X/S, resolves persistent controller disconnection issues, and more. Ensure your system is updated regularly to benefit from these improvements.
