The primary reason for wearing a mask is to prevent your respiratory droplets from contaminating the air others breathe. When you sneeze—a forceful expulsion of a significant amount of droplets—here’s the proper procedure:
Leave your mask on
Direct your sneeze into your elbow or a tissue (while keeping the mask on)
If the interior of your mask becomes unpleasantly soiled, replace it immediately.
We’re all capable of managing this. I have faith in us. If you’re concerned about spending the day with a damp mask, carry a spare. (Having additional masks on hand is always a good idea.)
Additionally, keep your mask on while speaking. Whether addressing a crowd or having a conversation, the mask allows clear communication while containing respiratory droplets. Speaking, particularly raising your voice, generates a significant amount of droplets, and the mask effectively traps them. Trust the mask to perform its intended function.
