The COVID-19 pandemic has been tough on gym enthusiasts. (I’m not personally one of them, but numerous fitness experts have confirmed this.) It’s not that gyms have closed—they’re technically still available, but maybe you’re not comfortable exercising with a mask, surrounded by people huffing and puffing as they work out.
If that’s the case, the next logical step is to bring your workout into the comfort of your home. But when you're accustomed to lifting weights or using certain machines, all the YouTube tutorials and makeshift exercises with soup cans won't suffice. Plus, not everyone has the extra funds to create their dream home gym. Fortunately, you can enter a contest to win a $50,000 backyard gym. Here’s how to do it.
What you’ll receive
The winner of the contest will receive a backyard “Shred Shed” valued at over $50,000. It is described as “a gym with all the amenities but the compact size of a shed, designed to help athletes create both the mental and physical space needed for a workout,” according to an email from Muscle Milk, the sponsor of the contest. In addition to the grand prize, there will be 50 runners-up who will receive a kettlebell and a 24-pack of Muscle Milk.
The Shred Shed measures roughly 10 feet in width, 8 feet in depth, and 10 feet in height, featuring a 4-foot deck in the front. Its contents and features may include, but are not limited to:
One (1) adjustable workout bench
One (1) deep muscle recovery tool
One (1) set of resistance bands
One (1) squat rack system with plate weights
PLYO cushion
One (1) iPad for training programs (with a one-year subscription to a California Strength program)
One (1) Punching or training bag with weighted base
One (1) exercise bike
Medicine ball and kettlebell sets of different sizes, with racks
One (1) yoga mat and several blocks
One (1) refrigerator
One (1) set of Bluetooth speakers
Rubber gym flooring throughout the shed
How to enter
First, you’ll need a backyard or some form of outdoor space that can fit the shed gym—that’s essential. Additionally, you must be a legal U.S. resident and at least 18 years old to enter (unless you live in Alabama or Nebraska, where the minimum age is 19).
Alternatively, visit UpgradeYourStrength.com and complete the form, including a 500-character (or fewer) explanation of how the gym shed would help you “own your strength.” You’ll also need to upload a photo showcasing how you adapted your fitness routine in 2020. You can enter the contest once per day.
Contestants will be judged on how much the gym shed would benefit them, the creativity of their fitness approach, and the quality of their submitted photo. Winners will be chosen and contacted after the contest ends on February 5, 2021.
