Most people overlook the capabilities of their iPhone's calculator app. While it’s frequently used, its full potential often goes unnoticed. Beyond basic math, it offers advanced functions like scientific calculations and other lesser-known features.
Quickly switch it to a scientific calculator mode
If your iPhone's rotation lock is turned off (accessible via the Control Center), simply rotate your phone sideways while in the Calculator app to unlock a full-featured scientific calculator.
Erase digits with a simple swipe
While a scientific calculator might not be used daily, deleting individual numbers is a common need. Swipe left or right near the top of the screen to remove a digit swiftly without resetting your entire calculation.
Instantly clear the current digits or reset everything
It’s easy to confuse the “C” and “AC” buttons. Here’s the distinction: The “C” (Clear) button removes the most recent numbers you entered without affecting earlier steps. In contrast, the “AC” (All Clear) button erases both the current input and all prior calculations, resetting everything to zero.
Become a pro at copying and pasting
You can copy the last result in two ways: Either tap and hold the numbers at the top and select “,” or press and hold the Calculator app icon to directly copy the result without opening the app.
Perform calculations without opening the Calculator app
Our final tip isn’t about the Calculator app but is essential for every iPhone user. Similar to Mac, the iPhone integrates a basic calculation tool within its Search feature. Simply swipe down on the home screen to perform quick calculations.
Spotlight supports basic math operations, currency conversions, and unit conversions—features even the Calculator app lacks. Plus, if typing feels tedious, you can always ask Siri to handle the math for you.
