The The Office universe is expanding. Earlier this year, Deadline revealed that Greg Daniels, the mastermind behind the American adaptation of Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant’s iconic British series The Office, has initiated development for a potential new series set in the same world.
While fans shouldn’t expect a full cast reunion, the upcoming series will explore fresh narratives within the Dunder Mifflin universe. As more details emerge, the project is steadily taking shape. Here’s the latest information available.
Greg Daniels, alongside Michael Koman, is spearheading the project to bring this vision to life.

Koman, known for his work on Late Night with Conan O’Brien and co-creating Nathan for You with Nathan Fielder, is also married to The Office star Ellie Kemper, who portrayed the lovably naive receptionist Erin Hannon starting in season 5.
Domhnall Gleeson and Sabrina Impacciatore are set to take on leading roles.

Daniels and Koman are reportedly casting a diverse range of actors and aim to finalize the full cast by the latter part of this year.

Her performance earned her an Emmy nomination, though she lost to her co-star Jennifer Coolidge. A graduate of New York’s prestigious Actors Studio, Impacciatore also appeared in the 2001 Italian film The Last Kiss (later remade by Tony Goldwyn in 2006 with Zach Braff) and The Passion of the Christ.
Gleeson, the son of acclaimed actor Brendan Gleeson (Gangs of New York, The Banshees of Inisherin), has shared the screen with his father in the Harry Potter series, portraying Bill Weasley in the final two installments. Following his starring role in Richard Curtis’s About Time, he landed significant parts in Angelina Jolie’s Unbroken, Ex Machina, Brooklyn, and The Revenant. Gleeson is widely recognized as the detestable and frequently humiliated General Hux in the latest Star Wars trilogy. He recently earned an Emmy nomination for his role in the FX series The Patient.
The series will be available for streaming on Peacock.
On May 8, reports confirmed that Peacock has officially approved the untitled series for its first season. This decision aligns with the fact that the American version of The Office is also hosted on the same streaming platform.
The storyline will center around a struggling newspaper.
Alongside the announcement of Peacock as the streaming home, an official synopsis was released: “The documentary team that captured the essence of Dunder Mifflin’s Scranton branch is now on a quest for a fresh story. Their journey leads them to a declining historic Midwestern newspaper and its determined publisher, who is striving to revive it with the help of volunteer reporters.” Filming is set to commence in July.
It’s improbable that any characters from the NBC series will make an appearance.

The U.S. Office cast has often reunited off-screen, with Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey co-hosting the Office Ladies podcast since 2019. However, an onscreen reunion appears unlikely, partly because Steve Carell, who played Michael Scott, has expressed disinterest in the idea—at least as of 2018. Carell did, however, recently collaborate with John Krasinski, the former Jim Halpert, on the upcoming film IF.
Cast members from The Office have reunited for various other projects.
Despite this, six members of the Dunder Mifflin crew—Rainn Wilson, Craig Robinson, Jenna Fischer, Creed Bratton, Kate Flannery, and Brian Baumgartner—reunited for an extensive new AT&T Business commercial. The advertisement promotes Wilson’s new luxury pillow collection, titled “Dream with Rainn,” which includes a built-in speaker that lets the actor soothe listeners to sleep with his calming voice.
