If you found yourself thinking, ‘I’d gladly spend $1.5 million to own the Creel family’s house,’ while watching season 4 of Stranger Things, you’re in luck. The iconic Creel house is now available for purchase, priced at $1.5 million.
To clarify, the eerie backstory of the Creel family is a creation of the Duffer brothers, as is the fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana. The property currently for sale—located in Rome, Georgia—served as the filming location for the show. However, the house itself is genuinely historic, dating back to around 1882. It was built by Hamilton Yancey, a notable figure in Georgia whose ancestors migrated from Wales to North America in the 17th century. Yancey’s father, Benjamin Cudworth Yancey Jr., was a Confederate officer, plantation owner, and enslaver, reflecting the dark legacy of the Yancey family.

For much of the 21st century, the Claremont House operated as a bed and breakfast. However, the owners sold it in 2019 after struggling to secure sufficient funding to maintain operations. As reported by the New York Post, the new buyers purchased it for just $350,000 and have spent recent years modernizing it for contemporary living. The kitchen now boasts a 15-foot marble island and state-of-the-art appliances, while the “butler’s pantry” includes a wet bar and ice maker. Additionally, all plumbing, electrical systems, and the roof have been completely overhauled.

Despite the updates, the mansion’s historic charm remains intact. Original moldings, custom-built bookshelves, and other architectural details have been carefully preserved—along with a cast iron urinal. Spanning 6000 square feet on an acre of land, the property features five or six bedrooms, five bathrooms, and a separate guest house with two or three additional bedrooms. The main house also includes an unfinished attic, which, as far as the owners are aware, is free from any supernatural threats.
