Wondering how the top Democratic candidates' tax proposals compare and how they might change your tax payments? There's a new online tool that can help you visualize the differences in their plans.
Tax Justice Now is an interactive platform that allows you to compare the tax proposals of Joe Biden, Bernie Sanders, and Elizabeth Warren to the current tax laws. The graph below shows Warren's proposed tax rates for different income groups (in blue) versus the current rates (in red).

If you’re curious why Tax Justice Now only showcases tax plans from three of the Democratic presidential candidates, the team behind the site—Emmanuel Saez and Gabriel Zucman, Professors of Economics at UC Berkeley, along with a group of students who contributed to the design and development—explains that Biden, Sanders, and Warren’s proposals are the only ones detailed enough to model at this time:
Many of the proposed tax plans are still in early stages and lack full details. Some candidates may introduce new proposals in the future. We’ve modeled the aspects that were sufficiently clear for us to do so (as of October 10, 2019). We will update our model as more information becomes available. We’ve also reached out to each campaign to ensure we understood their plans accurately and to request additional clarifications when necessary. Importantly, this is our interpretation and modeling of the candidates’ tax plans (not the campaigns’ official versions).
However, it's still valuable to explore how each plan could affect you and other American taxpayers—and check back as more candidates release their tax reform proposals.
Additionally, if none of the current tax plans appeal to you, Tax Justice Now allows you to create your own. Have fun with it!
