Most people are familiar with the look of a classic French manicure, but when you introduce the term 'deconstructed,' it may seem a bit unconventional. However, in this case, it’s exactly what it suggests—the trend still highlights the nail tips, but the design possibilities are limitless.
“The deconstructed French manicure puts a contemporary twist on the traditional style,” says Queenie Nguyen, a renowned celebrity and editorial manicurist based in Los Angeles. “Much like the classic version, the deconstructed French manicure is perfect for grown-out nails and can help extend the longevity of your manicure.”
While the classic French manicure remains a symbol of sophistication and style, people are eager for something different, says Rafaela Faustino, the owner of YARA beauty salon in New York City. “Clients have been asking for innovative twists, incorporating new shapes, chrome powders, and a variety of colors,” she shares.

Faustino mentions that the deconstructed French manicure she creates at her salon isn't as daring as some other versions seen around the city, but she believes that’s part of the charm of this current nail trend.
“It’s adaptable to everyone,” she explains. “From the simplest designs to the most imaginative.”
Exploring the Different Variations of a Deconstructed French Manicure
With deconstructed French manicures offering endless possibilities, there are countless variations to try, according to Nguyen. “You can experiment with numerous nail art trends, all centered around the tips of your nails.”
Some examples range from the minimalist, like double French lines, ombré, or a slanted French, to the more daring options, such as chrome, cat eye, or even contemporary art and animal prints. Here are a few more captivating variations to consider.

How to Achieve a Deconstructed French Manicure at Home
Although these nails may seem complex, you can easily pull off the look at home as long as you have the right tools.
Nguyen recommends that if you're searching for the perfect nail art supplies for this trend, Amazon has a wide variety of options, including dotting tools, cleanup brushes, different lengths of nail art brushes, polish remover, nail stickers, and rhinestones.
Social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram offer great resources for finding simple tutorials that are easy to follow, allowing people to recreate nail art looks at home, Nguyen suggests.
“I usually advise opting for simpler designs if you’re doing your own nail art, as it’s easier to mask any mistakes,” Nguyen says. “Start with one hand at a time to avoid feeling overwhelmed and steady your non-dominant hand on the edge of the table for better control of the tools.”
With so many options available, choosing the right one for a DIY project can be tricky, but Nguyen mentions that there’s one design that may be the easiest to start with.
“Out of all the variations mentioned, I’d say French ombré is probably the easiest to recreate at home. Simply use a sponge to gently dab polish onto the tips of your nails for the ombré effect,” Nguyen recommends.
