Step away from the outdoor fun and dive into the next phase of the Mytour Fitness Challenge. This July, we’re shifting focus to balance exercises—perfect for those quiet moments in the shade or whenever you have a spare minute.
Begin by testing your ability to stand on one foot. Start with timing yourself to see how long you can maintain balance. If you surpass 30 seconds, increase the difficulty by:
crossing your arms over your chest
shutting your eyes
choosing a softer surface, such as a plush carpet rather than a solid floor
Always remember to recognize your limits and prioritize safety.
Standing on one foot can be challenging, but if the advanced steps feel too difficult, there are simpler methods to improve your balance. Consider:
grasping a chair or another stable object for support
lightly touching the wall with a finger to maintain spatial awareness
keeping the toes of your non-standing foot lightly on the ground
I discovered a modified version of this technique in a kids’ yoga video. Instead of the traditional tree pose, where the foot rests against the standing leg, the instructor suggested keeping the ball of the foot on the floor and placing the heel against the standing leg. Even my young children mastered it after a few attempts, so it’s worth trying if the standard tree pose feels too tricky.
