Lipton’s set of questions is partially inspired by the Proust Questionnaire, which Marcel Proust famously responded to (though Proust did not create the questions; he is merely a well-known respondent).
Over the course of 250 episodes, Lipton’s questionnaire has yielded a significant amount of recurring answers. For example, when parents are asked about their "favorite sound," their responses often overlap. In 2012, editor Jordan Laws compiled numerous Actors Studio answers into a supercut, highlighting the repetitive nature of the actors' replies.
