For this month's Mytour Fitness Challenge, we're tackling at-home, quick workouts. Today’s routine is inspired by the scientist who brought high-intensity interval training into the spotlight. It's known as the “Go-To Workout,” and you can customize it to suit your needs.
We recently highlighted this as an excellent example of a micro-workout. Its creator, Martin Gibala, shares that if he could pick just one workout, it would be this one. You can read the full details here, but it’s straightforward and flexible:
Start with 30 seconds of jumping jacks or other light cardio, like jogging in place
Follow with 30 seconds of strength training exercises such as push-ups, air squats, pull-ups, or lunges
Repeat this circuit for a total of 10 minutes
What I liked about this workout was its flexibility—you get to choose your own exercises. For me, I focused on push-ups for the upper body and lunges for the lower body. My routine was 30 seconds of push-ups, followed by 30 seconds of jogging in place, then 30 seconds of lunges, and another 30 seconds of jogging. Then I repeated the cycle.
The strength exercises are designed to push you to failure within 30 seconds, but the great thing is if you pick a tough exercise—say you max out on push-ups before the time’s up—you can rest for the remainder of the segment. I found this created a perfect challenge, adjusting to my own pace. It was exactly as hard as I wanted it to be—no more, no less. It's a great routine, and I highly recommend you try it and let us know your thoughts!
