From mango to peaches, pineapples, berries, and now—introducing green apple salsa! The tangy green apple is paired with ripe avocado, red onion, cilantro, lime, and Fresno chile, making for a scoopable dip that’s perfect with tortilla chips. You can also serve this vibrant green apple salsa as a topping for grilled chicken or steak, or give it a zesty kick over fish tacos, replacing traditional slaw.
When shopping for avocados, pick ones that yield slightly when pressed, but are not overly soft. Avoid overly ripe avocados that squish easily, as they will break down too much when mixed and make the salsa mushy.
Ingredients
-
1 2/3 cups (1/4-in.) chopped unpeeled Granny Smith or Mutsu apple (from 1 large apple)
-
1 cup (1/4-in.) chopped firm ripe avocado (from 2 medium avocados)
-
1/4 cup finely chopped red onion (from 1 onion)

1 Tbsp. fresh lime juice (from 1 lime)
-
1 1/2 tsp. kosher salt (preferably Diamond Crystal)
-
1/2 tsp. finely chopped garlic (from 1 clove)
-
1 1/2 tsp. finely chopped seeded red Fresno chile (from 1 chile)
-
1/2 tsp. ground cumin
-
Tortilla chips, for serving
Directions
-
Combine apple, avocado, onion, cilantro, lime juice, salt, garlic, chile, and cumin in a medium bowl. Stir until well blended, then garnish with extra cilantro. Serve right away with tortilla chips.
If you prefer a sweeter salsa, try using a Honeycrisp or Fuji apple for a redder hue and a touch of sweetness.
