Numerous individuals have successfully quit smoking by drawing on spiritual resources. Many ex-smokers share their inspiring journeys of triumph.
"I know that my pure intentions to quit and heal and the many prayers that surrounded me have both had a great deal to do with my healing."
Quitting smoking felt like a miracle for me. No one who knew me believed I could do it. I created a list of reasons to quit, written in red ink to symbolize life, and placed it on my fridge for daily motivation. One of my goals was to live longer and watch my grandchildren grow. I prayed daily, switched to lighter cigarettes, and began questioning whether I truly wanted or needed each cigarette. Over time, I gained clarity about the financial and health costs of smoking. One night, a dream revealed that the cravings were gone, and it was now simply a choice. Since that dream, I’ve been smoke-free, grateful for the grace and prayers that supported my healing.
Breaking free from smoking has brought immense liberation. I no longer feel controlled by an external addiction. In the past, I avoided places where smoking wasn’t allowed, limiting my life significantly. Now, I can go anywhere, feeling grateful for my freedom. Avoid judging yourself or others; stay mindful, and grace will find you. If you’re honest and open to a better way of living, it will come. Believe in yourself and your ability to achieve anything. Focus on progress, not perfection. — Shero
"When I was ready, I requested prayer to help me quit smoking."
"After smoking for over two decades, I realized I couldn’t quit on my own. I also couldn’t afford the advertised methods. When I was ready, I sought prayer to help me quit. God answered my prayers. I quit without the usual withdrawal symptoms. Some might doubt this, but I know it was God’s intervention, especially since I smoked during stressful times, and I was under immense stress then. Yet, I felt no desire for a cigarette." — Robin S.
"The Bible says 'And whatever things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive.'" After trying patches, sunflower seeds, going cold turkey, and cutting back, I attribute my success to my faith in Jesus Christ. The Bible states in Matthew 21:22, "And whatever things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive"; Luke 11:9, "So I say to you, ask, and it will be given you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you"; and John 14:14, "If you ask anything in My name, I will do it." I prayed to be freed from my two-pack-a-day habit and 12+ years of addiction, and it was granted. No side effects, no cravings—it was as if I had never smoked." — Cathy D.
"I went to the Lord Jesus and asked Him to help me stop."
After struggling to quit smoking for three years, I finally turned to the Lord Jesus for help. I told Him I would try again the next morning. The next day, I went to work as usual and didn’t even think about smoking. It felt like I had never smoked before. After 22 years of smoking, I’ve now been smoke-free for 20 years. — Connie
"As a devout Catholic - a believer in the intercession of the saints - I made a great discovery."
This might sound unusual to some, but as a devoted Catholic who believes in the intercession of saints, I made an incredible discovery! Catholics have patron saints for various causes, from professions like farmers (Isidore) to television (Clare) and even ailments. I wanted to quit smoking and sought the intercession of Matthias. Though he isn’t officially the patron of quitting smoking, I asked for his prayers, and it worked! About two hours after praying, I lit a cigarette, and it tasted as if I had never smoked before. My reaction was the same—utter disinterest. — F. Paul K.
