We’ve gone over the basic gym etiquette before, and much of it boils down to common sense. Put your equipment back, share with others, and be respectful. However, I’m sure some of you might have lingering questions—perhaps you’re even avoiding parts of the gym, like the weight room, because you’re unsure about what’s acceptable and what’s not.
This is your moment to ask any burning questions about gym etiquette, and I’ll make sure to answer them in an upcoming post. What do you really want to understand about gym norms? To get you started, here are some ideas:
Sharing equipment: Is there an unofficial time limit on treadmills? How can you signal to others that you’re willing to share equipment? Is it ever okay to use a squat rack for curls?
Being courteous: Should you wipe down equipment after using it? Are you making too much noise? What’s the deal with gym selfies?
Communicating with others: How can you politely correct someone who’s doing something incorrectly? What’s the best way to ask for a spotter?
Make sure to specify the type of gym you attend, if it’s relevant to your question. (For instance, the etiquette might be different in a powerlifting gym compared to a yoga studio.) Share your thoughts with us and let us know what you're curious about!
