Did you manage to swim much this August? My summer was so chaotic that I mostly stuck to my usual gym routine, but I’m hoping many of you found time to swim a few laps and squeeze in some pool workouts.
I did try a specific type of pool workout, which Chilledmilk joked about when we discussed “brick” workouts—but honestly, dropping heavy objects in the pool turned out to be quite fun.
For me, this meant diving for small pool toys during a family vacation. I took turns with the kids: We had sinking toy fish, torpedo-shaped sharks that moved horizontally, and little jellyfish that floated slowly down. My youngest would collect the toys and toss them back in, while the rest of us raced to see who could grab them from the pool’s bottom first.
There's no denying that playing in the water is a great way to move your body, even if it feels more like fun than exercise. Even if you swim laps regularly, taking time to engage in playful activities can still help you develop a deeper sense of body awareness in the water—a feeling that's hard to achieve unless you let yourself have a little fun.
So, what kind of water workouts did you get into this August, whether intentional or not? What insights did you gain?
