It’s World Burpee Day today, and while it might just be a marketing gimmick, we’re intrigued: what’s your take on the infamous burpee? How many can you manage? And how many would you actually want to do, assuming that number isn’t zero?
For me, ten is my limit. I just tried them—full push-up at the bottom and a jump at the top. By the tenth rep, my legs gave up, and I had to stop. I might not attempt them again. Burpees are brutal.
To clarify, there are countless ways to perform burpees, and debates over the “correct” method are endless. Here’s one of the most popular variations:
Start in a plank position.
Perform a push-up (optional?).
Stand back up.
Finish with a jump!
Keep repeating this until you feel utterly exhausted. When my kids are overly energetic, I occasionally make them do burpees to tire them out. My instructions are simple: “Drop your belly to the floor, then leap into the air.” After a few rounds, they’re too breathless to complain.
