Later today, Nvidia’s 'GeForce RTX: Game On' live stream will reveal the company’s latest gaming-focused technology. (Let’s hope the new announcements include price cuts and improved availability of its high-end graphics cards.)
The livestream kicks off on Tuesday, January 12, at noon ET/9 a.m. PT. You can tune in via Nvidia’s official live events page, as well as on their official YouTube and Twitch channels. The live events page also provides links to add reminders to your Google or iCal calendar.
Jeff Fisher, Nvidia’s senior vice president of the GeForce division, will be hosting the event. So, while we probably won’t catch another glimpse of Nvidia CEO Jen-Hsun Huang’s unusually large spatula collection, we can at least expect to see the next generation of graphics cards from Nvidia’s RTX 3000 series—fingers crossed!
Nvidia has yet to provide any clues about what it will reveal, but based on leaks and rumors, we can expect a couple of new RTX 3000 series GPUs to be announced. Among these, the RTX 3050 is likely to be the most budget-friendly option in Nvidia’s current lineup. There are also whispers of an RTX 3080 Ti, which would bridge the gap in terms of both specifications and price between the RTX 3080 and the RTX 3090.
Once again, both the 3050 and the 3080 Ti are just rumors—but they make sense from a business standpoint. With supply shortages and import tariffs increasing GPU prices, offering an affordable choice for budget-conscious customers seems like a smart move. Meanwhile, a new premium model could help boost your chances of getting a high-end 3000 series card before they all sell out.
Nvidia is also expected to showcase its mobile RTX chips for laptops and portable gaming devices. Leaked specs for an upcoming ASUS laptop suggest it could feature an RTX 3080, which is typically too powerful for most laptops. We're eager to see how this plays out—assuming the leaks turn out to be accurate.
