Creating a paper people chain can be a fun and educational activity for children to develop their scissor skills. Image by Catherine Falls Commercial/Getty ImagesFor generations, children have been intrigued by paper cutouts, with the paper people holding hands being the most beloved design. Crafting these paper people is an ideal way to keep kids engaged after school, on rainy days, or during any other free time. Let’s dive into how to make these charming paper figures holding hands.
Materials
- Paper (8½ x 11)
- Pencil
- Ruler
- Stiff cardboard (like from a cereal box)
- Scissors
- Crayons
The Process
- Begin by folding a sheet of paper into an accordion. Ensure each section is of equal width.
- Measure the width of one accordion section and mark the same width on a piece of cardboard.
- Create a template by drawing a figure of a person with arms stretched outward on the marked cardboard section. Cut out the shape.
- Position the template on the top accordion fold and trace the outline onto the paper. Ensure the arms touch the edges of the folds.
- Cut along the traced lines while keeping the paper in accordion form. Be careful not to cut the folded edges where the arms end, as this would result in separate figures.
- Carefully unfold the paper. You should now have a complete chain of paper people holding hands.
- Color the paper people with crayons. [sources:Parents Connect, Family Education]
