Strava and Chipotle have teamed up in a marketing collaboration that offers three unique opportunities to win complimentary meals. Two of these methods require outdoor activities like running, walking, or wheelchair use (biking is not allowed) on designated Chipotle Strava routes. Learn more about the challenge and which strategies increase your chances of earning free food.
The simplest method to secure a free meal: Subscribe to text alerts
To maximize this promotion, the first step is to join the “No Quitters Day” text community—referred to as the motivational text message group. Click here to enroll, available until January 9.
On January 10, you’ll receive a text message with details on how to claim one of 50,000 free “lifestyle bowls.” Essentially, a lifestyle bowl is a burrito bowl, available in options such as the Plant Powered Bowl (featuring sofritas) and the High Protein Bowl (with double chicken).
(Why January 10? Strava has previously noted that the second Friday in January is when people often abandon their New Year’s resolutions, dubbing it “Quitter’s Day.”)
To maximize your free food opportunities: Reside in one of these 25 cities and run frequently
Strava is creating designated “segments” for this competition in 25 specific cities. A segment is a specific route with a leaderboard in the Strava app. If you record an activity (using your phone or smartwatch) that includes a named segment, you’ll be credited for completing it. If you run in a popular park, chances are you’ve already unknowingly completed numerous segments.
To participate in this challenge, locate one of the official segments and run it as often as possible. The person who completes the segment the most times in January will earn “Local Legend” status (a standard Strava feature) and receive Chipotle Rewards credits, redeemable for one entrée per week for a year. Eligible entrees include burritos, bowls, three tacos, quesadillas, or salads. Kids’ meals, “3-point meals,” and single tacos are excluded.
The complete rules for the city challenge are available here, along with links to the segments so you can locate them. These segments are typically short, ranging from 0.1 to 0.2 miles. They are spread across 25 cities, with 23 in the U.S. and one each in Paris and London. U.S. cities include Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Houston, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Miami, New York City, and Washington, D.C.
Another way to win: Reside in (or visit) the city with the highest mileage
For this final opportunity to win free food, no action is required—simply keep an eye on the city that accumulates the most miles on its Chipotle segment. The winning city’s local Chipotle outlets will offer a buy-one-get-one-free deal at a later date. No running or Strava account is needed; just watch for the promotion.
