Welcome to the final installment of 'How to Fake Playing Piano,' where we bring the series to a close. In this episode, Jason Oberholtzer, composer and pianist, takes you deeper into the world of music. So far, you’ve learned the fundamentals like octaves and fifths, notes, chords, and keys. Now, it’s time to unlock the secrets of playing nearly any type of music on the piano.
This lesson was a tough one for me—I had only just mastered the concept of fifths minutes before—but Jason stepped in, showing what can be achieved with consistent practice. He further reveals how the skills we've covered so far are essential to creating most modern music.
Although trying to absorb all of this in a single afternoon was challenging, I left with something traditional piano lessons had never provided: the confidence that I can create beautiful music on the piano. I may not be able to name notes without counting from C, nor can I read sheet music, but I now understand the core principles of what my hands are doing. For the first time in years, I feel inspired to continue teaching myself and to keep going further.
And that’s a wrap for 'How to Fake Playing Piano.' You can watch the full series here and then set off to explore the world of music on your own. Now, it looks like it’s time for me to find another hobby to fake.
