Amtrak has been offering some impressive discounts lately, but this one stands out: To celebrate their 50th anniversary, fares for Coach and Acela Business class are now available at 50% off on select routes nationwide. Additionally, there's a $50 flat fare between major cities for trips completed by November 13. Here's everything you need to know.
How the Offer Works
From now until May 5, you can secure 50% off fares for Coach and Acela class tickets at amtrak.com/50th-anniversary-sale on selected routes across the country. Even better, this deal also includes a $50 flat fare per segment (a segment is any time you board one train and then transfer to another), meaning you can book a $50 coach seat from Los Angeles to Chicago or from New York to Miami (though availability is limited). Other fares are also available, including:
Acela One-Way Fares
Philadelphia, PA - New York, NY: $41
Washington, DC - Philadelphia, PA: $46
New York, NY - Providence, RI: $47
New York, NY - Boston, MA: $49
New York, NY - Washington, DC: $50

Additionally, according to The Points Guy, Amtrak plans to phase out seat restrictions and return to full capacity starting on May 23, so you may want to make your reservation sooner to enjoy the extra space.
(Please be aware that this promotion does not apply to the following routes: New Haven-Springfield Shuttle, Pacific Surfliner, the Philadelphia to Pittsburgh section of the Pennsylvanian Keystone, and 7000-8999 Thruways).
Don't forget to follow CDC guidelines
The CDC suggests postponing all non-essential travel until you're fully vaccinated, as traveling increases your risk of contracting and spreading COVID-19. If you’re vaccinated, social distancing and wearing masks are still required. If you're not yet fully vaccinated and need to travel, please follow the CDC’s guidelines for unvaccinated individuals.
