Don't worry if your child gets dry erase marker on their clothes. It's possible to remove it. Stanislaw Pytel/Getty ImagesWet erase markers are designed with water-soluble dyes and are intended for use on laminated surfaces, which can be cleaned off with a damp cloth. Dry erase markers, however, are not water-soluble and are meant for non-porous materials like porcelain or glass. These markers are not washable. Dry erase ink contains pigments and release agents, which get trapped in the fibers of clothing when they make contact. While it may seem impossible, there's still hope. Here's how to remove those dry erase stains from your clothes.
- Lay several paper towels on a table. Place the stained clothing, with the stain facing down, on top of the towels. Make sure the stain is directly on the paper towels.
- Using a sponge, apply rubbing alcohol to the back of the stained area. Then, dab alcohol directly onto the stain from the reverse side of the garment with a sponge.
- Continue to rub the stain, changing the paper towels as they absorb the ink. Repeat this until the stain is no longer visible.
- Rinse the garment thoroughly with clean water.
- Wash and dry the garment as usual [source: Good Housekeeping].
You may be able to remove dry erase marker stains by treating the fabric with a stain remover, like Shout, and then laundering the garment as usual.
