Investing an additional $100 in a disc-enabled PS5 means you wouldn’t want a jammed disc to render it a costly digital-only console. However, if an accident occurs—like a child inserting a mini CD into your PlayStation—it’s not immediately clear how to remove it. Fortunately, there are a few techniques to recover the disc and restore your PS5's functionality. One method is notably simpler than the other.

Thankfully, a stuck disc issue is less complicated: the problem is confined to the disc drive, and manually ejecting the disc is relatively straightforward. Sony has integrated a built-in feature to assist with disc removal, though it’s not foolproof. If this method fails, a more advanced technique involving opening the disc drive may be necessary.
The simpler method to eject a stuck disc from your PS5
This is the initial method you should attempt, if possible. It’s simpler and faster to execute. As shown in this informative What Happens When video, start by completely disconnecting your PS5 from the power source. Never work on your PS5 while it’s plugged in. After that, remove the bottom plate if it’s still attached, followed by the bottom case. Finally, use a screwdriver to turn the screw beneath the black sticker clockwise, which will manually eject any trapped disc from the drive.

The more challenging method to resolve a stuck PS5 disc
The more complex approach is likely to solve the issue for most users, but it requires significantly more effort. Following CD247 Repair Centre’s detailed eight-and-a-half minute guide, you begin similarly to the simpler method. However, instead of using a screwdriver to manually eject the disc, you must disassemble the PS5’s internal casing step by step. Warning: This method voids your warranty, as it involves removing the security seal inside the console. If preserving your warranty is important, halt here and seek official repair services.
Assuming you proceed, carefully track which screws belong to which parts as you disassemble the console. Group similar screws, like those for the fan, separately to avoid confusion. While the process is straightforward, it can become frustrating if screws are misplaced or mixed up.
The ultimate objective here is to completely detach the disc drive. You’ll need to open it up, removing numerous screws in the process. Once inside, disconnect two wires from the board and gently lift the attached lid to unscrew the final obstacle blocking access to your stuck disc.
