Save money on your remodel by preparing your space before the contractors show up. With the right tools, removing a non-load bearing wall becomes an easy and enjoyable task.
Start by confirming that the wall you're planning to remove is not load bearing and be sure to turn off the breaker if there's power going to any outlets or switches in the wall.
Next, gather your necessary tools, including a reciprocating saw, flat/pry bar, box cutter, and hammer. Don't forget to wear work gloves and eye protection (unlike Josh in the eHow video above).
Begin by removing any trim or molding using your flat bar and hammer. Then, use your knife to cut through the drywall tape and mud along the seams at the ceiling and corners.
Now the real work starts! Grab your hammer to break through the drywall and pull it away to expose the studs. Use your reciprocating saw to remove the vertical studs, and pry up the floor studs with your flat bar. Watch the video above to see the steps in action.
