Amazon’s second-largest sale of the year, October Prime Day, begins on Oct. 8, with numerous early deals already available, as seen in previous years. To take full advantage of everything the event offers, you’ll need a Prime Membership. If you join Amazon Prime to enjoy Prime Day but later decide you don’t want a recurring subscription, be sure to cancel before your free trial expires.
How to terminate your Amazon Prime subscription
To cancel your Prime membership via a browser, simply log into your Amazon account. Amazon’s support page features an End Your Prime Membership button to initiate the process, or follow the detailed steps listed on Amazon's page:
Go to Amazon.com using your web browser.
Hover over the Accounts & Lists menu at the top-right of the page, then click on the Prime Membership option.
Hover over the Manage Membership section on the top-right of the screen, and then click the End Membership button.
Follow the on-screen instructions to proceed with canceling your Prime subscription.
Be aware that Amazon requires several clicks to complete your cancellation, giving you plenty of “chances” to change your mind.
How to cancel your Amazon Prime membership through the mobile app
If you prefer, you can also cancel your Prime membership via the Amazon Shopping app. Here’s how:
Launch the Amazon Shopping app on your mobile device.
Tap the Profile button at the bottom of the screen, which looks like a person’s silhouette.
Scroll down and tap on Manage Prime Membership.
Click the Manage Membership drop-down menu, then press the Manage Membership button.
Tap the End Membership button.
Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the cancellation of your Prime membership.
Things to keep in mind when canceling your Prime membership
As previously mentioned, closing your account will instantly revoke your access. However, Amazon provides the option to temporarily suspend your benefits and billing, rather than fully canceling them. Either way, your Amazon account remains active, but you will no longer have access to Prime benefits.
Lastly, if you have other subscriptions linked to your Prime account, they will terminate when your billing cycle ends. If you enrolled in Prime through the Android mobile shopping app or Prime Video Android app, you will need to manage your subscription through Google Subscription.
