Guess who's back with another review? This time, I'm sharing what I believe to be my most unexpected and truly satisfying product discovery yet. You might wonder why? Well, unlike my cherished Beyond Yoga Spacedye Leggings or my essential Calpak Luka Duffel, the product I’m about to introduce costs a fraction of what I usually splurge on. Seriously, it's under $5.
Excitement is totally justified, right?
The product I'm talking about? ChapStick's Total Hydration Moisture + Tint in the shade Rose Petal. It's currently just $3.97 on Amazon, making it an absolute steal.
If you're someone who carries ChapStick with you every day, you might be wondering why this is such a surprise for me. The truth is, up until I received this lip product in a mailer with every shade, I had never considered adding ChapStick to my daily routine.
Why was I so skeptical? Two reasons:
First, for years, I thought ChapStick was the enemy of good lip care due to its inclusion of petrolatum. While it traps moisture, it also blocks it, which some dermatologists claim makes ChapStick addictive. It provides immediate hydration, but over time, it can leave lips feeling even drier unless you reapply constantly.
Second, I'll admit, I was kind of snobby about it. I couldn’t imagine that a $4 ChapStick tinted balm could even compare to my $38 Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Volupté Shine Lipstick Balm.
So when I opened the mailer, I immediately thought of my mom and sister, both loyal ChapStick users. I tossed all the tubes in a bag for them and kept the Rose Petal shade, thinking I should at least give it a shot. (I get a lot of samples — there's no way I can try every👏 single one 👏. Don’t @ me.)
And y'all, I’m so glad I did. This tinted lip balm blew me away. It’s hydrating, gives my lips a dewy look, and adds a natural rosy tint that no other tinted balm has matched.

Often, pink-tinted balms are either too pale or too bright, either making my skin look washed out or giving me a bold lipstick effect. What I adore about ChapStick's Total Hydration Moisture + Tint in Rose Petal is that it gives me a natural, enhanced look. My lips look rosier, dewier, and just a touch plumper — everything I want in a lip balm.
It only took one use for me to be fully convinced by this product. I was so amazed that I knew two things had to happen: I had to add it to my collection of go-to lip products, and I needed to find out what exactly was inside.

The reason I love this lip balm so much and why it hasn’t dried out my lips is clear. According to ChapStick's website, Total Hydration Moisture + Tint is free from petrolatum. Instead, it’s packed with sunflower seed oil, jojoba seed oil, coconut oil, and beeswax. Plus, it also includes olive oil, rosehip seed oil, and raspberry seed oil. No wonder it gives such a natural finish. It’s one of ChapStick's more natural formulas.
Of course, I’m not the only one who’s discovered the magic of ChapStick’s tinted lip balms. Shoppers at Amazon, Target, and Ulta are loving it, too!
"I’m not into bold or dark lipsticks, and I was looking for something that would moisturize my lips and add a little color. This was perfect. My sister bought both the Rose Petal and this one, and she loves them both. I’ll be getting the Rose Petal next, and probably the Coral. They’re not as dark as they seem in the tube, but they go on sheer and are really nice. If you’re looking for strong color, this isn’t for you." –Arlie B.
"I love this! I keep it in my coat pockets, yoga gear, and car all winter. I first bought it when I was going into the hospital to keep my lips hydrated but also add a bit of color. It’s creamy and smooth, and it doesn’t feel sticky or have any taste. The color is perfect—just a hint of pink. Since December, I think I’ve bought four more! It’s such a steal!" –Target reviewer
"This has become a staple for me. Unlike many chapsticks that promise moisture but end up drying my lips out, this one delivers! My lips stay hydrated and smooth while wearing it. The color is subtle but works perfectly with my slightly tanned skin, and it stays on for hours. I’ll definitely be buying more of these." –SEH
"I LOVE THIS! I have it in Rose Petal. It’s perfect for daily use when I don’t feel like wearing much makeup. Don’t expect it to act like regular lip tints, though. It gives a very natural, subtle color while keeping my lips hydrated. If your lips are extremely cracked, go for the color-free version instead. Otherwise, it might look a bit odd." –Target reviewer
"This tinted lip balm is just right. It doesn’t look like lipstick; it just adds a natural-looking lip color." –Mouseware
