If you're into Instagram or spend hours on your TikTok 'For You Page,' chances are you've seen the Ugg Tasman slippers. With a wide range of colors, these slippers have taken the internet by storm. They're so loved that Ugg even released a platformed ‘Tazz’ version. Wondering if they’re worth the hype? They absolutely are.

I got my first pair of Tasmans as a Hanukkah gift during my junior year of high school, and they've been my go-to ever since. It wasn’t until last year—seven years after I first received them—that I decided to treat myself to a new (but identical) pair. I passed my old, well-worn ones down to my sister, who now swears by them, too.
While many slippers claim to be indoor/outdoor-friendly, the Tasman slippers actually live up to the promise. They've been my companions through high school sports, college classes, and countless city errands. The sole is durable and supportive enough to keep my feet comfy all day, and the traction is strong enough to prevent any slips on slippery sidewalks. Plus, the raised back? A total game-changer. Unlike slides, which can feel wobbly, these slippers provide the perfect balance of comfort and security, wherever I go.
The shearling lining is in a class of its own, keeping my feet warm and snug without making them sweat or overheat. One of the best things about these slippers is that they don’t necessarily look like slippers. With their soft suede top and stylish embroidery, they're the perfect match for your favorite pair of jeans, sweatpants, leggings, or cozy crew socks.
Remember, like any slipper, the fur starts off soft and plush but gradually flattens with wear. If they feel a bit tight at first, don’t stress—they’ll loosen up. Whether you're shopping for a gift for your best friend or treating yourself, these slippers are a must-have.

How to Shop for Slippers Like a Pro
Lining
If you tend to sweat in slippers, the lining material can make a difference. To minimize sweating, Dr. Lauren Wurster, a podiatrist and representative of the American Podiatric Medical Association, suggests opting for breathable fabrics like cotton. While wool, sheepskin, and shearling aren’t light, their natural temperature-regulating properties help keep your feet from overheating.
On the other hand, synthetic fabrics like polyester, terry cloth, fleece, and faux fur are more prone to trapping heat and preventing breathability, which can lead to sweaty feet.
I’ve also discovered that, although you might think socks would make your feet warmer, they actually help reduce foot sweat.
Outsole
The outsole (bottom of the slipper) plays a key role in determining whether the slipper can be worn outdoors. Most outsoles are made from durable materials designed to handle outdoor conditions, even wet ones. Wurster mentions that rubber, EVA (ethylene-vinyl acetate), polyurethane, and other common synthetics are long-lasting and perfect for daily wear. The Ugg Tasmans feature a rubber outsole.
Wurster advises that outsoles made of leather or other fabric types tend to be less slip-resistant and not ideal for outdoor use. If you buy slippers with such outsoles, it’s best to wear them indoors only.
Support
One common mistake Wurster observes when people buy slippers is focusing too much on style, especially the “fuzziness,” instead of the support they provide. She explains, “Often, the fluffiest slippers are built with a sole that’s basically cardboard, which is not ideal for healthy feet!”
When evaluating a slipper's support, Wurster suggests checking the outsole for thickness and tread quality, and also examining the insole for arch support. It's also crucial to assess the slipper’s overall stability: “When I assess any shoe, I keep it simple with two questions: 1. Does it bend or twist? If it does, it’s too flexible! 2. Does it have a solid, thick sole (and for slippers, is it slip-resistant)?”
Although memory foam might seem like the perfect supportive choice, Wurster notes that it tends to flatten after a few weeks of use, providing less shock absorption than anticipated.
