After a summer spent in the heat of the East Coast, where I lived in sweat-drenched T-shirts and overalls, the sudden cool breeze of New York has sparked a shopping itch for fall fashion I haven’t had since before the pandemic.
Could it be the ongoing buzz about understated luxury, or perhaps the countless fashion newsletters I’ve been reading, but I’ve recently found myself eyeing a classic wardrobe staple: a timeless crewneck cardigan.
Though many brands have offered their own versions this season, it was J.Crew’s stylish Jackie cardigan that initially caught my eye — until I stumbled upon a $25 option from an unlikely source: Amazon.
The J.Crew cardigan may be a bit more luxurious, with its lyocell and silk blend, but I find Amazon’s version, with its ribbed cuffs and hem and primarily cotton fabric, to be just right for me. I’m even enjoying spending time deciding which of the 27 colors to choose to complement my autumn wardrobe.
Another reason I'm drawn to this cardigan? Rumors suggest that Amazon is slowly stepping back from its in-house fashion brands. While they may not have been the most trend-forward, they always provided reliable, affordable staples for my wardrobe. (For example, The Drop’s Kimi dress, a $70 version of a style others charge hundreds for.)
Amazon’s cardigan also boasts a high rating from customers, with a 4.4-star average across more than 10,000 reviews. I can already imagine how I’ll style it to stretch my summer dresses into fall, or even tuck it into A-line skirts for a polished look.
