Spending too much time in front of screens and sitting for hours is taking a toll on our bodies. Our necks extend forward, shoulders slouch, and we put excessive strain on our lower body. Here's a simple fix to align your posture.
In the video above for VentureBeat, Kelly Starrett, founder of CrossFit San Francisco and author of *Ready to Run*, demonstrates the right way to type and hold your smartphone:
To achieve proper posture, stretch your arms out to the sides and rotate your palms upwards. This will roll your shoulders back. Then, bend your elbows to type on the keyboard or hold your phone at eye level.
While sitting, engage your abs to about 20% of full strength. Sitting should actually be an active process, it seems.
After watching this video, I've made it a daily practice, and it feels so much better than slumping. No one wants to resemble Quasimodo.
