Which vegan egg products are under recall?
The recalled egg-free products come from Cuisine Solutions in Sterling, Virginia, known for making JUST Egg products. This includes the egg-flavored, plant-based sous vide 'bites' that are part of the voluntary recall. The cause of the recall is undeclared allergens, as per a company announcement published by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Specifically, a small number of two-pouch retail packs might contain a wrongly sealed pouch with whole eggs and milk products inside.
The positive news is that the interior plastic pouches are clearly marked, making it easy to identify those that contain milk and eggs. This is crucial for individuals who suffer from allergies or strong sensitivities to milk or eggs, as consuming these items could trigger a severe and potentially life-threatening allergic reaction.
What steps should be taken if you have the recalled vegan eggs?
Along with the labeling of the pouches, it’s also important to check the ‘best before’ date. The recalled egg-flavored plant-based ‘bites’ come in 8.4 oz packages, and the ‘best before’ dates range from FEB-22-2022 to APR-09-2022. The ‘best before’ date is located on the back of the packaging.
This recall is significant, with approximately 80,632 boxes—featuring flavors like ‘Inspired by America,’ ‘Inspired by Japan,’ ‘Inspired by India,’ and ‘Inspired by Mexico’—distributed across the country. Fortunately, only one incorrect pouch has been discovered so far, and no adverse reactions have been reported.
Cuisine Solutions is collaborating with all distribution and retail partners to remove any affected products from shelves.
