While Amazon is known for offering competitive prices, there are some items that may actually be more expensive than on other platforms. According to Marketwatch, some product categories are priced higher on Amazon.
Marketwatch conducted a study and spoke with consumer experts to identify the products that cost more on Amazon. Here are a few examples of what they uncovered:
Clothing and Shoes:
If you're looking to buy clothes or shoes, especially high-end ones, you might want to consider other retailers. According to Glaser, DealNews.com’s features editor, Amazon doesn’t offer discounts as heavily as department stores or clothing brands themselves.
Cleaning Supplies
: Many cleaning supplies on Amazon are priced higher compared to other stores. Perez points out that she recently discovered Windex Original and Scott’s Liquid Gold were considerably more expensive on Amazon than at Wal-Mart. A comparison of these prices by Marketwatch also showed similar results.
Cosmetics and Beauty Products
: Certain beauty items and cosmetics, particularly those from well-known brands, are often priced higher on Amazon. Brent Shelton, an expert in online shopping from deal site FatWallet.com, explains that local drugstores usually offer better deals, especially for loyalty program members.
Marketwatch reports that while Amazon offers competitive prices on books, electronic accessories, and phone accessories, comparisons with other retailers like Wal-Mart and Best Buy show varying results. Wal-Mart often has the best deals on small appliances, while electronics are typically less expensive on Amazon than at Best Buy.
In general, it's a good idea to monitor prices yourself and take advantage of stores' price matching policies. For the categories mentioned, it's likely you'll find better deals elsewhere. For more details, check out the full post linked below.
