Photo: Leon Bennett/Getty ImagesAfter meeting actress, entrepreneur, and now recording artist Kate Hudson in person, I can confidently say she radiates positivity (just take a look at our picture!). But as we started talking, I realized it’s not just great makeup—it’s something deeper. "Nothing you put on your skin can beat what you put in your body," she shares (insert mic drop emoji here). In addition to her successful activewear brand, Fabletics, Kate is now teaming up with MyFitnessPal, a fitness and health tracker, expanding her wellness empire. "It’s a way to help people begin changing their habits for a better future," she explains. Inspired by Kate’s wisdom, here are some of the wellness habits she swears by.

Rather than cutting things out, focus on being "mindful" of them.
"I don’t consume much sugar or bread, and while I’m not a heavy drinker, I do enjoy a good cocktail—old fashioneds, Negronis, dirty martinis, and wine. If I tell Bri [Brian Nguyen, her trainer], 'I need to be in peak shape,' he’ll say, 'well, that's the one area we need to focus on.' I love my cocktails, but I also want to feel good, be healthy, and sleep well—too many drinks don’t mix well with rest. So, I tell people: be mindful of alcohol, don’t cut it out entirely," she shares.
Kate and Brian collaborated to create a plan for the tracker called 7-day Small Steps, Big Wins. Some new healthy habits Kate is embracing include increasing her protein intake, incorporating strength training into her routines (she’s a big fan of Pilates), and tracking her nutrient intake.
Lead by example.
"Staying healthy requires immense discipline. There’s a common misconception that wealth makes discipline unnecessary, but the truth is, I work incredibly hard, and my discipline comes naturally. It was shaped by my early love for sports—dance played a huge role in that, too. My mom made me attend dance classes, even when I didn’t want to. The routines I learned then helped shape my future. I always tell other moms, get your kids involved in sports. Rani [Kate’s 5-year-old daughter] is in soccer and dance. Children need to see you doing it—leading by example is the key," Kate advises. "They’ll want to join in and work out with you."
Build your support network.
"With MyFitnessPal, you’re joining a 20-year-old community with an extensive database. I love how simple it is. It tells you what you're eating, how much carbs and protein you're getting. You input your goals, and it helps you track them," Kate explains.
Brian adds, "The app creates a sense of community. It's like we're just hanging out, and we want to hear your story. We want you to be curious about the next recipe. The key to making lasting changes is logging your progress. Without it, there’s no accountability. A food journal truly transforms everything."
Remember, it’s never too late to begin.
"Just because someone didn’t grow up with knowledge or didn’t come from an athletic family doesn’t mean they can't start fresh. For us, an active lifestyle was just a way of life—vacations meant biking, hiking, swimming, and racing across the lake. But even if someone didn't have that upbringing, they still have the chance to build new habits," Kate says.
Leverage smart tools for support.
"Food has become something that many people struggle with these days. It's hard, and most people don’t cook their own meals anymore. That’s why using a free app to track what you’re eating is so valuable—not just for individual journeys, but for society as a whole. I’m also a huge fan of my Oura Ring, and I swear by electrolytes—they do wonders for my skin and brain," Kate says. "Food, sleep, and hydration—those are the essentials that truly make a difference."
