In this section, we’ll guide you through the process of drawing castles. You can either sketch by hand while following along on your computer screen or print this page for a closer look at each step.
We’ll provide a visual of each step, followed by detailed instructions on how to draw it. Follow the red lines in each image for precise guidance, with previous steps marked in gray for reference.
1. Basic Structure

Begin by outlining the basic shape of the building: a rectangle for the body, a box-like structure, an irregular rectangle for the roof, and two straight lines on the left side that converge as illustrated.
2. Adding Rectangles

Extend the building to the right and incorporate towers using rectangles and straight lines, topping them with triangles. Draw a horizontal line behind the structure. For the trees, use a long curvy line along the base of the castle, as shown.
3. Towers

Sketch the jagged mountains behind the building using uneven lines. Add two towers atop the roof using rectangles and triangles. Draw two rectangles below the towers as shown, and add curved lines to the upper rectangle. Draw additional curved lines on the other two towers as depicted.
Draw a straight vertical line at the top of the right tower and extending to the left side of the roof. Block in numerous windows with rectangles and irregular triangles. Add surface detailing to the building’s side using horizontal and vertical lines.
4. Adding Windows

Use irregular rectangles and lines to draw multiple windows along the building’s side. Add short straight lines to the tops of most towers. Sketch a wavy line wherever the roof meets the side of the building. Form the stones on the right side of the structure using uneven ovals.
5. Adding Shading

Add texture to the castle using vertical and diagonal lines. Use diagonal lines to shade the tree line and the stones on the lower right-hand corner. For the areas without stones, shade the ground with diagonal lines.
Your artwork is complete! Even if it’s not perfect on the first try, keep practicing until you're satisfied with the result.
