Winter is here, bringing shorter days, colder nights, and a noticeable dip in post-holiday serotonin. With Omicron and inflation on the rise, coupled with the challenges of Dry January, many of us are struggling to cope without alcohol. What’s the solution? Perfectly folded towels.
This might seem absurd—and perhaps it is. But isn’t adding a touch of elegance to your drab bathroom or organizing your chaotic linen closet just as meaningful as decluttering a countertop or treating yourself to flowers for a mood boost?
Admittedly, it requires extra effort. Will I do this for every load of laundry? Absolutely not. But when I saw the final result—eight perfectly rolled towels neatly stacked, replacing the usual tangled mess—it felt like a triumph. There’s something deeply satisfying about towels that stay perfectly folded, with a crisp V-shaped tuck, and don’t unravel every time you reach for one.
Thus, allow us to introduce the towel-folding technique you never realized you were missing.
The art of folding towels like a spa
Vanesa Amaro, a housekeeping entrepreneur and TikTok star known as the 'Queen of Cleaning' with nearly five million followers, demonstrated this technique in a widely shared video.
Start by placing your towel on a flat surface—a table or firm bed works well. Take the corner with the tag and fold it to form a small, smooth triangle. Next, fold the top horizontal edge down to meet the bottom edge (a step I call the Paper Airplane Step, as it mimics the initial folds of a paper airplane). Gently flip the towel over so the pointed corner is on the upper right.
Finally—for the finishing touch—begin rolling the towel tightly from the left side until only a small corner remains. Tuck this corner into the roll for a polished, symmetrical look. In just a few steps, you’ve transformed your bathroom’s appearance, brought order to your linen closet, and given yourself a fleeting sense of organizational triumph.
